What’s Your Hashtag Strategy For Your Business?

Monetizing Hashtags

Where once they had no meaning, Facebook has now given life to hashtags, and given businesses the potential to reach a whole new customer base through effective use of the # in their posting activities. While this is undoubtedly one of the headline news stories in the social media and marketing world, for businesses, it isn’t just about Facebook marketing strategy, every business needs to focus on their general hashtag strategy, and what it can do for their business.

If you can’t escape hashtags, then why not learn how to use them to your advantage, be it for building your potential client base and profile, or to make your products/services more visible when customers are searching for solutions to their problems. Radium One agency revealed that 34% of respondents in their survey use hash tags to search and/or follow brands/categories of interest, while 43% surveyed think hashtags are useful. Customers surveyed reported using hashtags to highlight ideas, but also exploring new content when hash tags were present on social media.

It’s clear to see why your business needs a healthy hashtag strategy, but lets drill down into the reason why, which include:

  • Hashtags are effective for special campaigns or promotional activity, particularly if you choose wisely and research in advance the results your chosen hashtag is likely to produce.
  • A hashtag strategy used well can open up your brand to a whole new audience. With Facebook this means your page links and relevant material can be discovered by a far greater audience than Facebook graph searches, which just focus on existing connections.

As with any social media tool, use it with care and you’ll get the best results. Overuse of hashtags equals off-putting spam, so adopt a useful end of status call to action, and then you’ll #success

What’s your view on hashtags, do you use them in your marketing strategy?
